Overland vs. Fly-in Safaris
With a few exceptions, most of our trips in Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and/or Zimbabwe) are flying safaris where the various destinations are linked by either scheduled commercial flights or light aircraft transfers.
In East Africa (Kenya Tanzania), we offer flying safaris using scheduled domestic flights or charters as necessary, or overland safaris with transportation in a private 4×4 safari vehicle driven by a naturalist guide.
For overland safaris in Kenya and Tanzania, our trusted local partner African Horizons maintains a fleet of custom-designed Land-Cruisers, each of which has been specially adapted to meet the demands of the rugged African terrain and modern convenience. These vehicles offer the following:
Comfortable twin seating
Sliding windows and roof hatches for optimum panoramic vision
12V cigarette lighters, which are ideal for charging batteries
HF or VHF radio connections
Cooler boxes
First-aid Kit
The great advantage of driving is that you see the extraordinary scenery while catching a glimpse into the everyday life of the countryside. Flying over the dramatic landscapes of Africa, however, remains the most efficient way to get from place to place if you’re pressed for time.
