South Africa Family Road Trip
Overview
This unique family full of lovely people were looking to plan their first safari, but instead of doing more conventional safari activities, they were interested in more off-the-beaten-track type of experiences. Having backgrounds in academics, the family also wanted some educational excursions incorporated into their first safari as well. The first half of their safari was very outdoorsy as they all partook in a mini safari guide training regimen known as “Eco-Training.” During their course, they had to complete lightweight trails and take turns keeping watch at night. The training camp started off in Mashatu and then progressed to Kruger National Park.
After their Eco-Training course was completed, Next Adventure wanted to enlighten the family with a “luxury” safari. They were dropped off in the Timbavati region where they got to enjoy excellent wildlife viewing. This safari portion of their trip was handled with all overland road transfers, a South African road trip so to speak. Not once did they have to take a light aircraft. Once the road trip was done, two people in the group split off to begin their own separate arrangements, while the remaining three headed off to Cape Town where they did a bit of touring. They enjoyed a Cape Point and Peninsula Tour, as well as an Uthando cultural excursion during their stay in Cape Town. With education and adventure being at the center of this trip, we were able to give this family the trip of a lifetime.
Itinerary in Brief
16 June: Arrive in Johannesburg, meet and greet and transfer to hotel (2 nights)
17 June: Half day tour to visit Sterkfontein Caves and the Cradle of Humankind museum in Maropeng
18 June: Road transfer to the Pont Drift border, Botswana, arrive at camp for orientation & overnight (2 nights)
19 June: Lectures, walks, and game drives demonstrating different aspects of bush training
20 June: Transfer to Kruger National Park for your continuing education (2 nights)
21 June: Trails guiding and walking guide skills focus in the wilderness of Makuleke Concession in Kruger National Park
22 June: Road transfer to Timbavati Reserve, PM wildlife viewing (3 nights)
23-24 June: Exploration of the Timbavati Reserve in search of resident wildlife
25 June: Flight to Cape Town, transfer to hotel and PM at leisure (3 nights)
26 June: Full day private Cape Point & Peninsula Tour including the penguin colony at Boulders Beach
27 June: Morning half-day Uthando Cultural Tour, PM at leisure or explore Cape Town on your own
28 June: Transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your departing flight
