Nomad Tanzania Classic Green Season
Overview
Tanzania is iconic for open savannah teeming with wildlife. Home to some of the most famous wildlife areas in the world, your journey through Tanzania will fill you with wonder at nature’s diversity. There’s no better time to witness the fauna of Tanzania than during its “green” season.
Instead of water supplies being scarce and the topography being bare and dry, Tanzania blooms into a lush paradise. The sky sustains misty grey clouds, but luminous golden light glistens through, making for some of the best lighting for photo opportunities.
Since green season is also the birthing season, there is an abundance of wildlife as you’ll behold babies are cuddling their mothers and learning to taking their first steps. And the overall gratification of having the wilderness to yourself since there are few visitors during green season allows for you to have a more extensive and meaningful experience. Together with our partners at Nomad, we have conjured up a highly inclusive Tanzania Green Season itinerary.
You’ll have two nights in Tarangire National Park at Kuro, set amid a grove of Acacia and Kigelia trees not far from the banks of the Tarangire River. Safaris in Tarangire are all about getting you right out there, as the park has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside of the Serengeti eco-system. Your next stop is at the Ngorongoro Crater region and your accommodation, Entamanu, is the only place in the world where you can enjoy views into both the Crater and the Serengeti. The Ngorongoro Conservation Authority area is part of the larger Serengeti ecosystem as it adjoins the Serengeti National Park merging into the Southern Plains. The south and west of the area are volcanic highlands, giving you the unique chance to view wildlife on top of an inactive volcano.
Finally, you’ll end your trip with a spectacular finish at Lamai Serengeti where there are panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, and it’s just a few miles from where the wildebeest cross the Mara River. The northern Serengeti area is a lush, rolling grassland and tree-lined watercourses. Unlike the southern plains of the Serengeti that dry out, forcing all but the hardiest of species to leave, this area remains lush and green. There’s a collective sigh of relief from the resident game when the one and a half million migrating wildebeest – and the madness that follows them – leave town for a few months. The resident game in this area is truly spectacular!
Tanzania is for sure a destination hot spot during the dry season of July to October, but this country boasts lesser-known gems during its green months. For those who have already seen the migration or want a more low key, intimate experience, this green season itinerary is a must-do.
