Brazilian Pantanal Jaguar Safari with Allen Bechky
Offered by Next Adventure
September 3 - 12, 2011

We are pleased to offer this magnificent wildlife safari focused on viewing wild jaguars while appreciating all the plentiful bird and wildlife of the area. The jaguar is South America’s apex predator. This large spotted cat is usually thought of as a denizen of deep Amazonian rainforest but it’s actually found in forests, savannas, and even deserts from Mexico to Argentina. Highly endangered, it’s rarely seen. Those lucky few who do find it in the Amazon usually get only a fleeting glimpse before the cat melts into rainforest shadows.

We’re thrilled to have discovered a place in the savanna wetlands of Brazil’s famed Pantanal where visitors regularly enjoy terrific jaguar sightings and opportunities to photograph jaguars in the wild! Cruising jungle-fringed waterways, jaguars are encountered on an almost daily basis.

This is the best wildlife trip in South America, bar none!

  • Caiman and capybaras (rather cute pig-sized aquatic rodents) are ever-present.

  • Bird life is consistently spectacular: jabiru stork, hyacinth macaw and roseate spoonbill.

  • Mammal viewing is extraordinary: past trip members have enjoyed sightings of giant otters, tapirs, ocelots and giant anteaters—all iconic South American species difficult to find elsewhere!

  • Activities include boat cruises and night game drives.
